A lot of Muslims hesitate to seek help through counselling because of concerns about whether or not it will clash with their Deen. Perhaps they’ve heard of Sigmund Freud and thought, that’s not for a Muslim! Alhamdulillah, the field of therapy has moved beyond Freudian principles and there are mainstream counselling techniques that are congruent with Islam.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or CBT, has been around since the 1950s. It’s a type of short-term, evidence-based therapy that deals with how our thoughts, feelings and behaviours affect each other.
What does that mean? We can identify and change our ways of thinking. And we can change some of our behaviour. To change how we feel.
On average, I’ll meet clients once a week for around 6 weeks. Together, Insha’Allah, we’ll identify the ways of thinking and behaving that are holding you back from living your best life. And we’ll find the best way to move forward instead Insha’Allah.
Insha’Allah, CBT can help you with:
Communication & conflict resolution
Moving forward past the breakdown of a marriage
Building self-esteem and confidence
Body image concerns
Building emotional resilience
Managing anger
Developing a healthy lifestyle
Establishing boundaries
Perfectionism
Difficult family relationships
Cultivating social skills
Investing time in hobbies
Anxieties before getting married
Healing from painful relationships
Work/life balance
Life transitions: career, moving, getting married, parenting
Depression
Stress and anxiety
and more
I’ll help you set achievable, goals, something to work towards in therapy.
You’ll learn to identify those particular styles of thinking and behaving that hold you back.
You’ll discover the best ways to think and be, take a bit of effort. Eventually they come naturally.
Go forth equipped with coping strategies, rational thinking and emotional stability.
The great thing about online therapy, is that not only is it effective but it’s also accessible to anyone with an internet connection. This saves you the hassle of driving anywhere, finding parking and allows me to reach and serve a greater number of you.
